An Exciting New Sound Coming Out Of Wigan

Wigan One, a brand-new radio station will be launched next week, filling the void left by Wish FM. It will be broadcast from a brand-new studio located in Wigan town centre.

This exciting new station will play hits from the 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s and 00’s and will be home to a current playlist along with specialist shows that nod to the town’s music heritage. Shows will include “Northern Souled out Sunday” and “Northerners with Attitude” hosted by Terry Christian.

Wigan One will also broadcast local news and sport as well as promoting Wigan’s culture and events and will be hosted by ex-Wish FM presenters including Martin Emery and Kev Bailey.

The project has been led by PlaceCo and developer of the Wigan Galleries scheme, Cityheart.

CEO Paul Taylor from PlaceCo, who is the project lead, commented: “We are incredibly excited to bring this new station to Wigan. There has been a real gap since the demise of Wish FM. Wigan One will bring back local content and great music.”

Councillor David Molyneux MBE, Leader of Wigan Council said: “There is so much going on locally, and it will be fantastic to have a local radio station to promote and support these events within our communities, based right in the heart of Wigan town centre.

“These are really exciting times with the Galleries development well underway, and this radio station will be able to support our local businesses and market traders, shouting about what’s on and encouraging people into their town centre.”

Warren Taylor, director at Cityheart added: “We engaged the services of PlaceCo to drive footfall into the market to help support business during the development of The Galleries.

“As the new station will be broadcast from the market hall, it will provide an opportunity for local businesses to be promoted across the Wigan borough, driving footfall to event in the town centre and well as further afield.”

The radio station will also be broadcasting on local DAB when the transmitter is launched later this year.
